The Job

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Psychiatric Technician. Psychiatric Technicians assist professional staff with the care of severely mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or mentally disabled patients. Duties include providing nursing, custodial, and personal care to patients; dispensing medications; evaluating and reporting patients' behavior; recognizing changes in behavior; planning and participating in various kinds of rehabilitation, occupational, recreational and group activities; and transporting patients to and from treatments and assisting in determining patient discharge, based on observation.

ARROWHEAD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

Located on a beautiful 70-acre campus in Colton, California (50 miles east of Los Angeles), Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is a state-of-the-art, public/nonprofit, 456-bed, university affiliated teaching hospital licensed by the State of California Department of Public Health and accredited by The Joint Commission. The hospital houses a regional burn center serving four counties (San Bernardino, Riverside, Mono and Inyo), a comprehensive stroke center, level I trauma center and a freestanding in-patient behavioral health center. Additionally, ARMC operates five community-based, primary care clinics and over 40 specialty care outpatient services. ARMC is the primary teaching hospital for the adjacently located California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM), the Inland Empire's newest medical school.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment Process: Applicants selected for these positions must pass an extensive background investigation, as well as verification of employment history. Employment may be denied to applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony in the following areas: crimes of violence, domestic violence and drug related offenses.

Certifications and License: Must maintain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification issued by ARMC, Basic Life Support certification, and a current California Psychiatric Technician license throughout employment. CPI training is provided.

Working Conditions: The work environment may involve exposure to assaultive and combative patients, hazardous and infectious materials and communicable diseases.

Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, occasional walking, standing, bending, and reaching above and below shoulder level and carrying up to 10 pounds.

Work Schedule: ARMC is a twenty-four hour facility; applicants must be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays . Shift differentials are provided.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

License: Must possess and maintain a Psychiatric Technician's license with the state of California.

Certification: Must possess and maintain Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support certification.

Desired Qualifications

Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.

Candidates with experience as a Psychiatric Technician in an acute mental health setting are desired.
