Definition

The City of Newport Beach seeks a motivated individual to join our team!

This is a key position in the Community Development Department management team overseeing all aspects of the operations and activities of the Planning Division, including: implementation and updates to the City’s General Plan, Zoning Code, and Local Coastal Program; long-range strategic planning; current development review; and community engagement, and staff development.

Selection Components

Retirement:

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% (or half the normal cost) of pay toward the retirement benefit.

Schedule:
This position may work a 9/80 or 5/40 work schedule.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible professional management experience, including two years of supervisory experience, in community development or urban planning.

Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's degree in urban planning, public administration, or a related field . A Master's degree in a related field is desirable.

Certificate: Possession of AICP certification desirable.
