Job Summary: The Youth Athletics Swim Coach I assists with the overall organization and coaching of the youth CARA team at Winona Pool. Must be available to work early mornings and weekends. Scheduled days/hours may vary.
The salary range for this position is
$15.76 - $21.27 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Essential Functions: - Conducts early morning swim team practices to enhance the swimming ability of all team members.
- Responsible for the safety of swim team members while practicing or participating in a meet.
- Ensures that the only people in the pool during swim team practices are registered team members.
- Attends CARA meetings as scheduled.
- Attends meets held at facilities other than Winona Pool.
Other Job Functions: - Assist with the supervision of any volunteer coaches who may be working with team members.
- Supervises all program practices and team members.
- May be required to cross train into other areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Level and Management Expectations: - There are no supervisory/management expectations of this role.
Qualifications: Education: - Required: High School/GED.
Experience: - Required: 2 years prior swimming experience.
- Preferred: Competitive swimming experience.
Certifications: - Current CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Current Lifeguarding and WSI certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Must possess superior knowledge of proper swim stroke techniques and competitive swim training techniques.
- Assist with schedule of workouts and meets
- Must interact diplomatically with youth, parents and other staff members.
- Demonstrate the skills of good judgment and patience, and schedule workouts and meets.
- Must assist quickly and correctly in emergency situations and will be required to assist or perform the necessary lifesaving procedures.
- Must make sound judgments, exercise conflict resolution, and exhibit patience when dealing with stressful and/or disciplinary situations.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants in their swimming classes by safe and proper usage of equipment and facilities.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: - Frequent: Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
- Occasional: Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools.
Working Environment: - Occasional: Exposure to hazards that are predictable or well protected against.
- Frequent: Exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.
