The Operational Training Division of the Austin Water Department is responsible for strengthening the skills, confidence, and safety of Austin Water’s operational workforce. Our team focuses on preparing employees to perform critical water and wastewater operations through hands-on training, certification preparation, and practical workforce development aligned with regulatory and operational standards.

We support employees at every stage of their careers by delivering training that builds operational competence, reinforces safe work practices, and ensures employees are prepared to perform their duties effectively in the field. We achieve this through close collaboration with operations and AW leadership.

Location: Austin Water - [Plant TBD], Austin, TX

This position will be primarily based at a wastewater treatment plant and will rotate to other Austin Water wastewater facilities as training needs require.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Flexible start time. Hours may vary due to business needs

Pay Range:

$29.89 - $37.37

The role:

The AW Certification Trainer develops engaging training materials and resources and delivers in-person training sessions that support the operational readiness of Austin Water employees. This position plays a key role in strengthening workforce capability by providing hands-on instruction aligned with operational needs and regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Training Supervisor of Operational Training (Workforce Readiness and Proficiency), this position requires a strong understanding of adult learning theory, instructional content design, wastewater operational processes, and TCEQ guidelines.

The AW Certification Trainer will support all wastewater operations by delivering hands-on Essentials and Proficiency training, helping ensure employees develop the knowledge and practical skills required to perform their roles safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

Driving Requirement:

This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
