Position DescriptionThis position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the clinic patient flow and serving as the primary contact for patients. Responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition, this position is responsible for processing charges for clinic services, filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients and insurance companies and maintaining related information for the department. Employees may have cash-handling responsibilities.
Major/Essential Functions- Process and manage referrals by reviewing documentation, entering referrals into the EMR, and routing them to the appropriate department or provider for review and scheduling.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits, including obtaining authorizations or referrals when required to ensure services are covered prior to scheduling.
- Coordinate patient scheduling by contacting patients, explaining referral details, and arranging appointments according to provider availability and clinical urgency.
- Maintain accurate referral documentation by indexing records, attaching clinical documentation, and updating referral statuses in the EMR to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate with patients, providers, and referring offices to obtain missing documentation, clarify referral details, and ensure timely processing of referrals.
Required Qualifications- A High School diploma or GED.
- 1-year Customer Service, office, or related experience. Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement.
