SENIOR ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN
Description
Job SummaryIdeal Candidate:
- Possess advanced knowledge of technical accounting and financial procedures, with the ability to perform complex and specialized duties with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate experience handling the most difficult and sensitive accounting tasks within an assigned functional area
- Accurately verify, reconcile, and maintain financial records, including assessment tax roll information
- Have experience supporting or leading centralized payroll functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
- Assist in the preparation, review, and maintenance of budget documents and financial reports
- Provide high-level administrative support to assigned supervisors, including coordination of financial and operational activities
- Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive financial data
- Effectively prioritize multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing work demands
- Provide lead direction to assigned staff, including training, workflow coordination, and guidance on procedures
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders
- Be fully trained and proficient in all procedures related to their assigned area of responsibility
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement

QualificationsThe minimum and preferred requirements are listed below.While the following requirements outline the minimum qualifications, Human Resources reserves the right to select applicants for further consideration who demonstrate the best qualifications match for the job. Education and Experience:MINIMUM: Graduation from high school supplemented by accounting or financial courses from an accredited college, and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and review of accounting, financial, or fiscal records or one (1) year of experience at a level equivalent to the County’s classification of Accounting Technician. Relevant education may be substituted for up to two years of experience as defined on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED:In addition to the minimum, an Associate’s degree from an accredited college with course work in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field, and additional years of experience as defined above in a public agency.
Licenses and Certification:- The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; may be required to maintain throughout employment.
Special Requirements:- Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which may include Live Scan fingerprinting and/or credit check prior to hire.
- Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
