About the Opportunity

The City of Ventura is seeking a skilled and experienced fleet professional to join our team as a Fleet & Equipment Technician Lead. Under general supervision, this position leads fleet staff while performing advanced mechanical repairs, equipment installation, and maintenance on automotive, emergency, and construction vehicles and equipment maintained by the City. The role supports the operation of the City’s Fleet facility and is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. The incumbent may also be required to participate in a rotational standby schedule and respond to call-backs within a designated timeframe, as determined by the Division Head.

Key responsibilities include:


Minimum Qualifications - Required

A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to high school graduation and five years as a journey mechanic, including heavy equipment as well as automotive repairs.

Selection Process Timeline:


The Fleet & Equipment Lead Technician job class functions at the advanced journey level of performance. This job class performs the full range of duties and provides lead supervision to entry and journey level mechanics. This position is distinguished from the Fleet & Equipment Services Supervisor position by the latter's overall responsibility for the supervision, administration, and operation of the Fleet Services section.
