Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Develops weekly schedules for periodic maintenance and trouble-shooting.
- Records work performed and parts used for billing purposes.
- Communicates with equipment users regarding schedule of periodic maintenance and other maintenance needs.
- Conducts routine inspections.
- Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Orders/issues parts and supplies.
- Performs electromechanical repairs to complex equipment.
- Modifies or refurbishes equipment.
- Estimates time, labor, and materials for budget or billing purposes.
- Performs welding, braising, or fabrication of some parts.
- Maintains technical data on equipment to be serviced.
- Maintains inventory of parts.
- Monitors contracted maintenance services.
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:- May lead and train others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of symbols used in engineering drawing, circuit diagrams or schematics.
- Knowledge of basic operations of small electric motors and pneumatic or hydraulic pumps.
- Knowledge of safety in repair of energized electronic equipment.
- Knowledge of operational function of equipment to be assembled repaired or maintained.
- Knowledge of testing of electronic components.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in performing electromechanical equipment and component repair.
- Knowledge of complex electrical systems.
- Knowledge of City practices, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Skill in planning and organizing.
- Ability to test and calibrate equipment or controls to close tolerance.
- Ability to follow written specifications and interpret engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, schematics, or procedures for assembly or repair.
- Ability to lead and train others.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus four (4) years of experience in repair and maintenance of electronic controlled pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
- Experience may substitute education up to four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:- If required, must obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 120 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: - Knowledge and experience of centrifugal submergible water pumps, overload current and control devises.
- Knowledge and experience maintaining and programming electric gate valve.
- Knowledge and experience in the repair of hydraulic and pneumatic pressure systems.
- Knowledge and experience operating and maintaining industrial machinery systems.
- Experience in welding and usage of cutting torch.
Notes to Candidate:POSITION OVERVIEW:Equipment Technician II will be required to maintain all mechanical and hydraulic equipment associated with the Waller Creek Stormwater Bypass Tunnel Facilities including operating a supervised controlled and data analysis system and troubleshooting and repairing mechanical debris management systems. This position must also be able to operate a forklift, deck/boom cranes, skid steers, and other similar equipment. This position also required to be on an on-call rotation.
SALARY RANGE:Min: $ 26.03 - Mid: $ 31.04 per hour.
PHYSICAL WORK LOCATION: 2001 E. 5th Street, 78702
DAYS AND HOURS:40 hours per week - Monday - Thursday, 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
May require working outside of normal business hours as dictated by business needs. In addition, work schedule may change to a rotating shift during weather events. Must be agreeable to accepting on-call assignments which might result in a call-back to work.
ESSENTIAL STATUS:This position has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a city-designated extraordinary situation or emergency condition, essential employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees, as well as ensure the continuity of essential operations. DRIVING REQUIREMENT:This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). Must maintain a good driving record. External New Hires must meet the
City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
