Description

DescriptionUnder close supervision, performs entry-level work in analyzing and developing transit schedules, Operator work run assignments, and related documents to improve Metro's bus and rail performance and connections.

Examples of Duties- Learns and assists in performing the following technical duties
- Prepares, updates, and maintains bus and rail transit operating schedules according to guidelines and other available schedule data to meet passenger demands
- Develops Operator's work runs in accordance with labor agreements
- Utilizes computer software to assist in the development of schedules, work runs, vehicle hours, mileage, and patronage statistics
- Develops and maintains statistical records regarding schedules, personnel requirements, and equipment requirements
- Assist with bus and rail data to improve transit performance and connections
- Prepares, orders, and proofreads schedule materials prior to publication
- Analyzes operations personnel and patron complaints, recommends changes, and writes responses
- Participates in test trips/ride lines of new or revised transit routes
- Visits various operating divisions to exchange information with operating personnel regarding service requirements
May be required to perform other related job duties
Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education- None Required; Associate's Degree in a related field preferred
Experience- One year of relevant experience in transit operations, transit scheduling, or other transit-related experience utilizing transit routes and schedules; training or experience using microcomputer software preferred
Certification/Licenses/Special Requirements- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
- Frequent travel to other Metro locations
Essential KnowledgeKnowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
- Large-scale transit operations and routes
- Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies
- Vehicle operations and safety
Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
- Compiling and analyzing data using arithmetic formulas and detailed procedures
- Performing arithmetic and basic statistical calculations rapidly and accurately
- Reading and understanding rules, policies, maps, and schedules
- Preparing reports and correspondence
- Safely operating vehicles
- Communicating effectively orally and in writing
- Operating a calculator
Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
- Monitor bus and rail service schedules
- Utilize applicable computer software
- Set priorities under close deadlines
- Read, write, speak, and understand English
