DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: The Butte College Department of Child Development and Education (CDE) is seeking a full-time instructor in the Early Childhood Education (Spanish) program, starting in the Fall Semester 2026. The CDE department offers certificates and degrees toward various career pathways and supports workforce competencies in the field of early childhood education. As both a transfer and career and technical education program, the department collaborates with the local CSU, other educational entities and local industry partners to maintain relevance and currency in curriculum and program offerings. Additionally, the CDE’s on-campus Child Development Center serves as a high quality, NAEYC-accredited student laboratory program.
The successful candidate will be bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English and will provide classroom and lab instruction in Spanish and English for child development and early childhood education courses. The Department philosophy is grounded in developmentally appropriate teaching practices; authentic observation- and assessment-based approaches; curriculum planning; and reflective practice with children, families, and communities. Instruction occurs within a collaborative learning environment that values co-learning and co-teaching and builds on the strengths, skills, and lived experiences of students.

POSITION DUTIES: Teach courses in the Early Childhood Education Program (ECE). This instructor will teach from the full list of ECE programs at Butte College, with a primary emphasis on the department's courses offered in Spanish.
The full-time college instructor is responsible for effective performance in the following areas:

E. College-wide ServiceInstructor demonstrates a pattern of College-wide service, including one or more of the following:
Serve on College committees. Serves on College committees and project teams. Serves as a sponsor to student clubs and organizations. Participates in faculty/college governance. Participates on special project teams or ad hoc committees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- Master’s in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR
- Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies; OR
- Possession of a current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as an instructor in the applicable discipline; OR
- The equivalent (Applicants wishing to be considered for employment under District equivalency standards must submit a detailed statement explaining how you possess the equivalent to the minimum qualifications discussed above); AND
- Verbal and written proficiency in English and Spanish; biliterate in both languages.

- Active involvement in local, regional, and /or state professional organizations related to early childhood education.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively meet the needs of individuals with diverse skill levels, identities, cultural backgrounds, and linguistic experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate productively with diverse faculty and staff.
- Experience advising students on career pathways and child development permit requirements.
