Detention Officer
Description
Overview The Detention Officer is responsible for the processing of arrested persons in and out of the Detention Center and for ensuring the safety of the facility and the individuals processed through the facility.
Responsibilities • Responsible for searching every individual brought into the facility by CCPD, inventorying their property, and performing the initial medical screening of arrested persons
• Review CCPD arrest reports for completeness and accuracy as well as entering the arrest information and Arrested Persons information in the computer system (booking)
• Control and/or restrain violent and combative Arrested person to ensure they do not hurt themselves, staff, or other Arrested Persons
• Responsible for fingerprinting all Arrested Persons brought into the facility as well as entering the fingerprints in the live scan system
• Facilitate the Arrest Person going before the magistrate Judge to be magistrated and confirm that all paperwork and photographs have been completed and taken
• Responsible for transporting Arrested Persons to the Nueces County jail.
• Responsible for the release of Arrested Persons that will not be transported to the Nueces County jail
• Responsible for checking the security of the facility four (4) times per hour and monitoring the welfare of each Arrested Person four (4) times per hour
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
• Rotating schedule from night to days every six (6) weeks from 6:00am to 6:00pm and/or 6:00pm-6:00am
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Six (6) months of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within twelve (12) months of hire • CPR and First Aid Certification
Employment Testing Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below: • Criminal Background Check: Yes

Run 600 feet through a series of cones in seven (7) minutes and fifty (50) seconds
Maneuver around nine (9) cones which are spaced fifteen (15) feet by thirty (30) feet, run back to starting point and drag 150 pound dummy a total of ten (10) yards, run back 660 feet to cones, at each cone touch chest to ground and back up, and proceed to finish line where time will stop.

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
