Position Summary:
Analyzes laboratory samples. Duties include maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory instruments and performing laboratory tests in one or more of the following laboratory areas: chemistry, hematology, histology, serology, coagulation, bacteriology and urinalysis.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Meets requirements to be licensed as a Medical Technician (NAC 652.440) or Specialty Technician (NAC 652.485) in the State of Nevada.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
A valid State of Nevada license as a Medical Technician or Specialty Technician is required or temporary employment for a period NOT exceeding six (6) months may be granted with documentation that the application for license process has been initiated. Failure to obtain and/or maintain licensure will result in termination of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Anatomy; medical technology procedures and protocols; proper laboratory techniques, including infection and disease control measures; special staining and sectioning procedures, proper handling and disposal of biohazardous wastes; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; infection control policies and practices; patient rights; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:
Anatomy; medical technology procedures and protocols; proper laboratory techniques, including infection and disease control measures; special staining and sectioning procedures, proper handling and disposal of biohazardous wastes; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; infection control policies and practices; patient rights; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, including stamina to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
