FACILITIES SUPPORT WORKER

The Public Works Department is seeking one (1) candidate for a Facilities Support Worker. This is an entry level position that will provide general janitorial services, event setup, and complete minor facility repairs. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who ensures spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming, and has a keen eye for details. The position requires significant public interaction, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and initiative.

Representative Duties

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine custodial work in the care, maintenance, and cleaning of City buildings and facilities; performs minor repairs and maintenance; sets up and breaks down meeting and event spaces; and performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This journey level classification is responsible for independently performing duties in support of custodial and routine maintenance tasks. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This classification is distinguished from the Facilities Technician I/II classification in that the latter performs more semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance of City buildings and facilities.

Completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and one year of custodial experience including care, maintenance, and cleaning of buildings and facilities.

This is a regular full-time position. Retired Annuitants are not eligible for appointment to this position under Government Code Sections 7522.56, 21224, 21227, and 21229. Retired CalPERS members may apply only if they are planning to voluntarily reinstate from retirement.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in the field; to sit, stand, and walk on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces; frequently reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to operate varied hand and power tools and equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various City sites; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confining spaces and around machines; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment and assistance from other staff. The work requires wear and use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.? Employees may interact with members of the public or with staff under emotionally stressful conditions while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Employees may be expected to work overtime, weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
