The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking attorneys for legal counsel positions in Jefferson City, Missouri. Department Legal Counsels perform a variety of services, including providing legal advice and assistance on correctional issues such as inmate rights, conditions of confinement, and probation, parole and sentencing issues; representing department officials at administrative and court hearings; and liaising with the Attorney General’s Office on department litigation. Attorneys for the department also draft and review contracts, legislative bills, procedures, and administrative rules.

Attorney positions will stay opened until filled.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a member in good standing of the Missouri Bar with excellent communication skills who possesses initiative, independence, and the ability to apply knowledge in a professional and timely manner to implement the department’s mission to improve live and make Missouri communities safer. Three or more years of legal experience is preferred, but not required.
