This position will report to and assist with work at Deutschheim State Historic Site, 109 W 2nd Street, Hermann, MO. This position typically works Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break. Shifts may vary occasionally with the time of year and to meet the needs of the facility.

• Responsible for performing a variety of skilled work in maintenance, natural resource stewardship, and repair or alteration of state buildings and facilities. Work area includes the Pelster House barn.
• Work in a variety of trade areas such as historic building maintenance, woodworking, gardening, landscaping, pruning, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair in settings such as facilities and grounds.
• Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, and park/historic site grounds.
• Operate and maintain lawn mowers, tractors, skid loader, trucks, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar mechanical equipment.
• Basic computer and customer service skills for timekeeping, assisting visitors, and regular report tracking.
• Basic knowledge of site and ability to run the cash register for tours.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain chainsaws to include experience felling trees.
• Assist with prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, herbicide application, and other natural or cultural activities as directed with the completion of Level 1 Prescribed Fire training.
• Maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license to operate and maintain licensed vehicles, as well as tractors, mowers, skid steer, and other grounds related equipment.
• May also oversee a seasonal engaged in maintenance tasks.

• This position may be required to obtain and maintain a commercial operator’s license (CDL). If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary license/certification.

• Plumbing and Pipefitting : Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to install, maintain, or repair pipelines, pipe systems, and fixtures, including water, air, steam, gas, chemicals, or sewage.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

• Four to six years of on-the-job training in building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trades. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
