Description: JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The
Traffic Control Specialist supervises tasks related to vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle and construction traffic control operations for construction, maintenance, and repair of county roads and rights-of-ways. Responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing traffic control operations, lane closures, road closures, setting signs and devices, per MUTCD and in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. May operate a variety of vehicles, equipment, hand tools and power tools. Will work near traffic and interact regularly with the public.
SCHEDULE: This position operates on our five-day work week (Monday-Friday) , 40 hours/week.
*Must be able to respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and report to an assigned shop within one hour of being called.*
COMPENSATION: Hiring Range: $ 29. 76- $32 USD Hourly
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Supervise tasks related to vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle and construction traffic control operations related to construction, maintenance, and repair of county roads and rights-of-ways. Oversee flagging activities ensuring adherence to safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites. Supervise Flaggers and ensure County standards are complied with .
- Utilize various software programs to create traffic control plans specific to each project. Responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing traffic control operations, lane closures, road closures, setting signs and devices, per MUTCD and in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Set up and breakdown of traffic control sites to include placing and removing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devices.
- Operate other equipment and tools as necessary, such as mower, chain saw, rakes, and hand tools.
- Perform equipment and vehicle pre/post-trip inspections as defined by federal guidelines and inspect other items affecting safe operations. Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance, as necessary.
- Report incidents, accidents, traffic violations, damage to equipment, vehicles, and utilities.
- Must adhere to all relative policies and procedures.
- Ensure the various components of the Road & Bridge Safety Management Program are adhered to, including the proper use of PPE. Ensure a safe environment consistent with regulatory and organizational requirements and needs.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience: Three years.
Education: High School diploma or GED.
License/Certifications: Must be at least 18 years old by hire date.
- Valid Driver’s License for 2 consecutive years prior to hire date. If from out of state, must obtain a Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
- Must possess a valid Class B or A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake restriction removed as well as a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card at the time of hire .
- Must have Tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
- Must hold current CDOT or ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor and Flagger certification. May be required to obtain Stormwater Management, and/or Erosion Control certifications. May be required to obtain a Class A CDL or a Hazmat endorsement.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies and snow removal operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and report to an assigned shop within one hour of being called.
*Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities :
Industry-specific Knowledge:
- 8-hour Hazmat certification
- Experience in public works in a similar field
Technical Skillset:
- Experience in a lead role
Soft Skillset:
- Dependable; excellent attendance record
- Willing to learn and follow County guidelines
