Description

The Missouri Ethics Commission (MEC) is seeking an attorney to serve as Enforcement Counsel in its Jefferson City office. The MEC is a state agency responsible for campaign finance reporting, as well as lobbyist registration and reporting as well as Missouri’s conflict of interest statutes that are applicable to elected and appointed officials. The Commission investigates complaints alleging violations of the laws pertaining to these reporting areas. It also investigates alleged violations of Missouri’s conflict of interest statutes that are applicable to elected and appointed officials.

The Enforcement Counsel works directly with the MEC’s General Counsel and is primarily responsible for handling administrative cases that are pending before the Commission. This work includes communicating with individuals and/or other attorneys regarding cases, negotiating settlement of such cases whenever possible, and preparing for and conducting hearings before the Missouri Ethics Commission, the Administrative Hearing Commission, or Circuit Court when necessary. The Enforcement Counsel is also expected to support the work of the MEC by providing information and assistance to the Commission, its employees, and the general public as needed.

Qualified applicants must possess excellent analytical, interpersonal, written, verbal, and organizational skills. Litigation and/or administrative hearing experience would be a plus.

The candidate must possess a JD degree from an accredited university and be eligible for admission to the Missouri Bar.

The salary range is from $65K-$70K, commensurate with experience, for a full-time position. This position is based in Jefferson City.
