Position Information

Public Safety Dispatcher - Intermediate/Advanced
LATERAL DISPATCHER SIGNING BONUS
This position is eligible for an $80,000 signing bonus!

$40,000 upon hire, $20,000 upon successful completion of the dispatch training program. $20,000 upon successful completion of twenty-four (24) months of continued employment as a Public Safety Dispatcher with the City.

Base Salary For Intermediate to Advanced
$28.01-$39.56 /hr.
$58,260.8 - $82,284.80/ yr.

Multiple incentives available; earn up to $91,583.98 annually based on POST certificate eligibility and shift differential. Additional incentives include 5% bi-lingual pay and 7.5% training pay.
2% raise effective July 2024 (not reflected in the posted salary)

Dispatcher - Intermediate: This is the journey level class in this series in which incumbents are fully competent to perform the full range of assigned duties. Incumbents operate a wide variety of complex emergency communications equipment dispatching law enforcement and/or fire/medical resources. Incumbents are required to handle emergency situations with relative independence within established policies and procedures.

Dispatcher - Advanced: This is the highest-level class in the Public Safety Dispatcher series. Incumbents in this class are expected to perform as lead workers on their assigned shifts. In addition, incumbents are expected to act independently and to advise supervisors of work or staff needs. Incumbents are expected to train new, temporary, part-time, or extra help employees to a level of departmental standards. Incumbents will provide input for employees’ evaluations and assist in the developing training programs for lower Public Safety Dispatcher staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work is frequently performed in emergency and stressful situations.

Environmental CONDITIONS
The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy. Work with numerous and frequent interruptions in a high stress environment. Work shifts cover 24 hours per day and seven days per week including holidays.
