Position Salary Range: $5,513 - $8,270 per month

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $7,000 per month.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the general direction of the Director of Campus Awareness, Response and Education (CARE) and Basic Needs, the Associate Director, CARE & Basic Needs is responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the activities of the CARE and Basic Needs departments. The incumbent will provide direction of the day-to-day operations and serves as the supervisor for professional staff including but not limited to the Food Access Coordinator, CalFresh Healthy Living Coordinator, Care Coordinators, student assistants, and volunteers. Incumbent will oversee the implementation of Basic Needs Initiatives, including management of the campus food pantry, emergency grant distribution, rapid rehousing and emergency housing. The incumbent will work with the Director to assist in developing processes and procedures for CARE and Basic Needs, establish short-to-mid-term goals, and define organizational priorities that are consistent with the University's strategic plan and vision. The incumbent will lead the campus community's efforts around meeting the needs of under resourced and high-need students.

May require occasional evening and weekend hours.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plans, organizes, and manages basic need programs. Establishes local and regional collaborative relationships and partnerships with business entities, community organizations and non-profits, and local educational agencies pertaining to student basic needs; Assist in implementation of compliance for all grant and partnership agreement rules, contract language, and outcomes are met.
• Manages the development of resources, programs, events, and services to support students’ basic needs, including housing, food, transportation, health needs, and employment.
• Plans, organizes, and coordinates the day-to-day activities and services of the Basic Needs Program areas; connecting at risk and in need students to available services; ensures activities and operations comply with basic needs program requirements.
• Develops and implements of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the basic need program areas; works with leadership and across departments to research, implement, and administer policies, procedures, and adaptive business practices and processes; Participates in developing and maintaining program standards and processes, and related policies and procedures for program participants and program support staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in student development, higher education, counseling or counseling psychology, student personal, public administration or closely related field.
• Experience: Three -five (3-5) years of professional experience years performing student services/case management work requiring experience working with sensitive matters that require providing accommodations and/or referrals. One (1) year of supervisory/managerial or leadership experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Incumbent should possess general knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field.
• Counseling, risk assessment and handling crisis situations.
• Counsel and advise students on basic needs and wellness.
• Train and educate faculty, staff and students on trends and issues in basic needs and wellness with a focus on proactive education.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, or Local agencies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in student development, higher education, counseling or counseling psychology, student personal, public administration or closely related field.
• One -two (1-2) years of spearheading initiatives.
• Knowledge of University guidelines and procedures related to Student Support Services.
• Manage complex and diverse situations.
• Supervise and evaluate the work of others.
• Work with campus administrators, faculty, staff and students to address complex issues and situations
• Demonstrate sensitivity to values of cultural and ethnic diversity and working in a diverse campus community.
• Analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
• Write detailed reports and documents.
• Coordinate interventions and work with students in crisis.
• Present, train, and develop workshops.
• Interpret and evaluate complex situations brought forward by faculty, administrators, departments or individuals.
• Administer a variety of professionally complex and confidential assignments without detailed instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of departments and individuals.
• Organize complex programs and ensure attention to detail.
• Work with students individually and in groups and collaborate with the campus community.
