Description
Job Summary: The Lead Custodian will perform a full range of custodial work, as well as assist custodial staff in tasks. Responsibilities include assigning, reviewing, and inspecting the work of assigned staff, maintaining accurate time records, coordinating custodial support for events, and identifying and reporting repair needs.
Duties and responsibilities Lead Custodian Duties: - Collaborate with the custodial manager or designated administrator at the beginning of each shift and throughout the day to receive specific instructions, updates, and priorities to ensure smooth operations.
- Retrieve keys, radios, and essential supplies required for daily custodial operations at the beginning of each shift. Ensure custodial staff are properly issued radios and keys and ensure all equipment is retuned at the end of the shift.
- Report Absenteeism by notifying the department manager of any staff absences or tardiness within 15 minutes of the scheduled shift start time.
- Adhere to all established safety protocols and follow appropriate safety measures, including using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe work environment.
- Provide guidance and train custodial staff on the proper use of equipment, supplies, products, protocols and procedures to perform a wide range of custodial operations.
- Research all complaints by faculty, staff, and students. Take necessary corrective action during work shift in coordination with department manager and follow-up on concerns of custodial services.
- Communicate emergencies, irregularities, or injuries, to department managers as they occur. Report all safety issues to the appropriate administrator immediately.
- Submit request forms for all vacation absence requests, coordinate work orders, and work schedules to Facilities Management. All schedules are coordinated with department management based on campus regulation and the needs of the department.
- Create and submit maintenance work requests in the WebTMA system, ensuring routine requests are processed in a timely basis. Notify the facilities services center of emergencies.
- Order supplies using the WebTMA system and ensure supply list is submitted as scheduled. Maintain appropriate inventory levels, notifying managers of shortages, and prevent overstocking by routinely inspecting custodial closets. Deliver supplies to assigned crew.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning properly; identify and inform appropriate managers of necessary repairs or replacements, as needed.
- Provide lead work direction to the assigned custodial crew throughout the shift while actively participating in daily custodial tasks as needed.
- Work with a diverse work team, motivating staff to achieve operational objectives. Effectively handle difficult situations and report to the appropriate administrator.
Communication and Coordination: - Effectively communicate with building occupants about relevant matters and concerns. Collaborate with administration, faculty and staff as concerns arise in the area of responsibility.
- Collaborate with building occupants and other stakeholders about relevant matters.
- Provide assistance during power outages during inclement weather and other peculiar situations including but not limited to locking doors and windows, turning off lights, and other support.
- Provide assistance moving furniture as needed.
Miscellaneous: - Fire extinguisher inspections.
- Other classification- related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - Equivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience and providing on-the-job training and leadership to others.
- Valid CA Driver’s License
Required Qualifications: Knowledge: Working knowledge of the methods, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures; and effective lead/supervisory practices and techniques.
Abilities: Ability to provide lead work direction, including training others in proper work methods and safety and providing feedback on work performance; read and write English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; use computers to track work orders and order supplies and materials; establish, promote and maintain cooperative work relationships with others; and analyze situations and take appropriate action.
Compensation and Benefits: Anticipation Salary Range: $3,690 per month
Classification Salary Range: $3,690.00 - 6,062.00 per month
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

Mandated Reporter The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Campus Security Authority This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
