Accountant LOCATION: Missouri Division of Tourism, Jefferson City, MO
Department of Economic Development
ANNUAL SALARY: $58,000.00 - $64,000.00 (based upon credentials)
• Perform accounting functions relating to accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory and fund accountability ensuring regulatory compliance and appropriateness of financial transactions; prepare/review supporting documentation and explain accounting events in conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
• Apply and interpret conceptual accounting principles in the preparation and analysis of monthly and year-to-date expenditures and determine the appropriateness of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and agency specific, state, or federal requirements.
• Work within State of Missouri systems, including but not limited to Missouri Buys/MOVERS and SAM II.
• Prepare the monthly commission budget on an accrual and cash basis .
• Prepare and review financial information requested by internal, state, and federal auditors; respond to audits and corrective action plans and monitor progress.
• Maintain the contractor database to ensure proper payments are made.
• Identify and investigate financial discrepancies/issues; advise management of solutions and potential impact.
• Exercise considerable independence, judgment, and initiative in the performance of assignments within established policies and procedures; receive general administrative direction.
• Perform other related work as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 24 earned credit hours in accounting and three or more years of professional experience in business or governmental accounting.
• Two (2) or more years of applicable accounting experience
Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant. Competencies • Intermediate knowledge of GAAP and methods, and the ability to apply and adapt established methods to varied accounting problems.
• Intermediate knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing the expenditure and reporting of state and federal funds.
• Knowledge of financial management, accounting and auditing principles and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of public and Department staff.
• Ability to work independently and carry out assignments without close supervision.
• Ability to prepare complete and concise reports.
• Ability to analyze, interpret and apply statutes, regulations and agency policies.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers, vendors, destination marketing organizations, commission members and the general public.
• Ability to learn (if no prior experience with) State of Missouri systems including Missouri Buys/MOVERS and SAM II.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.

$58,000-$64,000 per Year
