Position Information

• This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
• This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
• Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may occasionally require weekends, nights, extended shifts, overtime, and holidays as needed for special events or emergencies.
• The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) is a department in the division of Safety and Community Empowerment in Business and Financial Affairs. PATS employs 18 professional staff and multiple student assistants. PATS parking officers are responsible for the enforcement of parking rules and regulations on campus, in addition to providing parking and traffic support for numerous events occurring on campus. Our parking officers provide enforcement through foot patrol and license plate recognition software. PATS office staff provide information and services to our campus community for permits, citation appeals, defensive driving and overall support for our parking management database used by our community for managing their parking accounts. Additionally, our transportation analyst works directly with vendors and campus partners to provide alternate modes of transportation for our campus community and ensure our traffic demand management initiatives are followed. Finally, our special event analyst is responsible for coordinating all special events requiring parking, signage, and traffic control. Our student assistants provide office support and provide services to the campus community through campus patrol in partnership with the University Police Department.

Education and Experience

Entry to the first level within this classification requires high school level reading, writing and mathematical abilities and possession of a California Driver’s License. The nature of the duties may also require successful completion of a background check. Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn how to use applicable parking-related equipment and automated systems is essential.

High school diploma or equivalent plus three to six months related experience would normally achieve these entry qualifications.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Valid California Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Key Qualifications

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance, repeatedly, sit, bend, walk for extended hours, stand and have repetitive arm movement for long periods of time, exposure to car and flare fumes, and the ability to tow equipment.
• Working knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to parking and traffic control.
• Ability to act and resolve parking and traffic problems.
• Ability to write standard parking incident reports in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to observe and recall details and incidents, as well as detect and respond appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Leadership, Communications, Criminal Justice Administration, Public Administration or a related field is preferred.
• One or more years of prior experience working in parking enforcement directly relating to the enforcement of the California Vehicle Code and California Education Code is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,577 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,680 - $5,310 per month.
