Description

The capital asset accountant position is responsible for recording the cost of newly acquired capital assets, tracking existing capital assets, recording depreciation, and accounting/recording the disposal of capital assets for the entire County.

HIRING SALARY: $60.840 - $79,685 (Estimated Annual Salary)

Duties and Responsibilities

Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the addition, transfer, and disposal of capital assets.Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to capital assets.Assign tag numbers to capital assets.Record capital asset acquisitions and disposals in the County’s accounting/asset system.Set up and track construction projects, record in the capital asset system and track on various excel spreadsheets.Track compilation of project costs of capital asset accounts into the Finance spreadsheets, close out completed projects and ensure all are properly recorded in the capital asset system.Reconcile the balances in the capital asset portion of the system to the summary level accounts.Reconcile and enter the amounts in the general ledger capital asset additions accounts to the capital asset portion of the software.Calculate depreciation of all capital assets.Review and update the detailed schedule of capital accounts and accumulated depreciation.Investigate the potential obsolescence of capital assets with the assistance of the assistant finance director and facilities staff.Conduct periodic physical inventory counts of capital assets.Conduct research and analyses related to capital assets as requested by management.Prepare audit schedules relating to capital assets and assist the auditors in their inquiries. Lead the accounting for fixed assets, including depreciation calculations, journal entries, reconciliation of asset accounts, and preparation of financial reports in accordance with US GAAP Provide guidance, training, and support to finance and operational teams on fixed asset policies, procedures, and best practices.Other duties as assigned
