SECURITY CONTROL SPECIALIST
Description

DescriptionUnder moderate supervision, monitors security related technology and behavioral analytics to detect threats, customer code of conduct violations, and criminal activity.
Examples of Duties - Utilizes technology and behavioral analytics to detect threats, customer code violations, and criminal activity
- Monitors radio communications to determine the need for security assistance and/or intervention from available resources
- Receives reports of crime, suspicious activities, citizens' complaints, and general inquiries
- Assigns, coordinates, and dispatches field units in response to requests for service and/or observed activity
- Advises responding units of potential problem areas and monitors field unit activities
- Enters and compiles data relating to calls into the Metro's Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and prepares reports
- Coordinates with law enforcement personnel, other security personnel, and Metro staff
- Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education - High School diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or California High School Equivalency Exam Certificate
Experience - Two years of relevant experience performing security or law enforcement-related services and support
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements - A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
- Must be able to obtain Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) Dispatcher Training Certification within 12 months of hire
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand Spanish preferred

- Interface with individuals who may be hostile, irrational, emotionally distraught, or mentally ill
- Differentiates between routine, priority, and high priority messages and initiates responses or advises supervisory personnel
- Work with partners, teams, and independently
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions and procedures
- Conduct surveillance to detect threats
- Accurately and clearly report facts and details regarding observations
- Type 35 words per minute
- Read, write, speak, and understand English

Working Conditions - Typical office situation
- Close exposure to computer monitors and video screen

- Work irregular hours, split shifts, weekends, holidays, or 24-hour-a-day on-call assignments
