The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited-term and extra help vacancies as they occur over the next 12 months. About the Position of Maintenance Worker I/II and the Department of Corrections: - Maintenance Worker I Hourly Rate Range: $29.79 (Step 1) - $35.25 (Step 5)

Napa County’s Department of Corrections is responsible for the coordination of all programs and services related to the institutional care, treatment and rehabilitation of incarcerated persons including: Classification, Diagnosis, Intake screening, and Programs that deal with sentencing alternatives.

The Maintenance Worker I/II performs a wide variety of building maintenance and groundskeeping duties and performs related duties as required. Additionally, the Maintenance Worker I/II may include custodial duties to ensure coverage and completion at the Department of Corrections.
- The Maintenance Worker I is the entry level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. This classification is characterized by the responsibility to work under immediate supervision in a training capacity until acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to promote to Maintenance Worker II. At the Department of Corrections, duties may include custodial duties to ensure coverage and completion.
- The Maintenance Worker II classification is the journey level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. This classification is characterized by the responsibility to perform building maintenance and groundskeeping duties under general supervision. Position Requirements:
Persons employed in this class must be willing to work early morning shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends. Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
- Experience:
- Maintenance Worker I: One (1) year of experience in gardening, groundskeeping or custodial maintenance work.
- Maintenance Worker II: One (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Worker I OR two (2) years of experience in general building maintenance, general gardening, groundskeeping, or related work.
- Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write and the level required for sufficient job performance
- License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.*
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
