DUTIES PERFORMED TO SUPPORT THE DEPARTMENT’S VISION: This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this title.
Auditor Assistant:
- Assist regulatory auditors in the preparation of sales/use/withholding, corporate income, and tire & battery tax audits;
- Review company tax returns, financial and related records to complete tasks as assigned.
- Conduct front-end reconciliations of business records in order to create accurate billings for business new to filing vendor use tax in Missouri.
- Communicate to auditors, supervisors, taxpayers or their accounting or legal representatives.
- Research applicable statutes, regulations, and court cases using the FCB Database, Internet, and other sources, as applicable. Research results should be documented in a manner that an auditor assistant can discuss the research with the supervisor or auditor and cohesively arrive at a suggested assignment approach with supervisor or auditor.
- Compute audit findings.
- Prepare audit workpapers documenting the scope of the audit, records reviewed, correspondence and other supporting documentation; submit for review, approval and further processing.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
Regulatory Auditor:
- Independently conduct sales/use/withholding tax audits on Missouri businesses.
- Assist taxpayers in achieving compliance, as well as an understanding of Missouri tax laws.
- Assist higher-level staff in conducting audits, and independently conducts routine audit assignments.

QUALIFICATIONS: Auditor Assistant: - Associate Degree typically focused on Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or closely related area.
OR
- Years of service and exemplary performance within the Department of Revenue.
Regulatory Auditor: - Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major specialization (approximately 18-30 semester hours) in accounting. (Related professional experience may be considered for substitution.)
After 3 months, with successful production, the Field Compliance Bureau offers a hybrid work options (1 day in the office, 4 days from home). However, you will be required to report to work each week and will be domiciled in the Jefferson City Office.
