Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty related to Fire/Rescue Operations, Emergency Medical Services, and Fire Prevention; performs related duties as assigned.

Please Note: This is an hourly/non-exempt position, all candidates will be required to start at Step 1 of the pay scale for this position. This is non-negotiable.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduation from high school or the equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
- Must possess a current certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician or above at time of application
- Must possess or obtain one of the following certifications at the time of the final offer of employment:
- Southern Nevada Health District EMT certification or above
- A State of Nevada EMT certification or above
- A National Registry Certification as an EMT or above
Must successfully complete cadet academy within time limits established by the Fire Department as a condition of continued employment, to include obtaining a State of Nevada Firefighter II Certificate and Southern Nevada Health District licensure as an EMT or above

ASSESSMENT DATES: Written Examination - All written examinations must be completed by May 13, 2025 . Please note: Scores will only be accepted for tests taken between November 5, 2024, and May 13, 2025 .
Physical Fitness Test - Dates to be determined (Top-Scoring candidates)
Virtual Oral Board Interview - To be completed 1-2 weeks after successful completion of Physical Fitness Test (Candidates who successfully complete the Physical Fitness Test)
Chief's Structured Selection Interview (Weighted 100%) - Dates to be determined (Top-Scoring candidates)
GENERAL RECRUITMENT TIMELINE: - All interested candidates will submit their online application by the deadline in the posting. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
- Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will receive an email instructing them to register for/schedule the Firefighter written examination through the National Testing Network (NTN). NTN scores must be completed by May 13, 2025.
- Top-scoring candidates will move forward to the Physical Fitness Test.
- All candidates who pass the Physical Fitness Test will move forward to the Virtual Oral Review Board.
- Top-scoring candidates from the Virtual Oral Review Board will move forward to the Chief's Structured Selection Interview.
- This recruitment will be used for the upcoming academy with a tentative start date of November 3, 2025.

NTN WRITTEN EXAM SCORES: The City will only accept NTN Exam scores that are less than six (6) months old. If your original NTN test date was before

PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST (PFT): Candidates who receive a passing score on the NTN test will be notified via email to self-schedule for the Physical Fitness Test. T his is a City of Henderson (COH) sponsored event, and we will only evaluate candidates during these COH specific times. The Physical Fitness Test consists of the following:
Ball Clean and Toss Shuttle RunRequirement: Complete 10 ball cleans over shoulder using 40lb slam ball, 10 50’ shuttle sprints, then 10 ball cleans over the shoulder using 40lb slam ball with no breaks in between
Expectation: Continuous reps
Failure: Not completing all reps in 2 minutes
Deadlift (195 lbs)Requirement: Complete 10 195 lbs deadlift reps using a hex bar in 2 minutes
Expectation: Utilizing full range of motion and correct form
Failure: Less than 10 reps utilizing range of motion and correct form in 2 minutes
Hand Release Push-upsRequirement: 45 Hand Release Push-Ups
Expectation: Full extension and correct alignment
Failure: Less than 45 reps in 2 minutes
Elbow PlankRequirement: Hold elbow plank for 1 minute and 30 seconds
Expectation: Maintain form and correct body alignment
Failure: Breaking form or resting on the ground prior to 1 minute and 30 seconds
1.5 Mile Run Requirement: Complete run within 13 minutes
Expectation: Continuous run on designated route
Failure: Not completing 1.5 miles within 13 minutes
Written Instructions for HFD Physical Fitness Test VIRTUAL ORAL REVIEW BOARD INTERVIEW: Candidates who successfully complete the PFT will be invited to participate in a pre-recorded virtual oral review board. Successful candidates will receive an email with a link that will provide further instructions on how to complete this process.
CHIEFS STRUCTURED SELECTION INTERVIEW: Top-scoring candidates from the pre-recorded virtual oral board review interviews will be invited to participate in the Chief's Structured Selection Interview. Candidates will receive an email to self-schedule.
CPAT REQUIREMENTS: - All successful candidates invited to attend the City's Fire Academy must submit proof of a passing CPAT notice/card on or after May 3, 2025, by the time of the final offer. Do not take the CPAT before May 3, 2025, as anything taken before this date will be considered invalid.
