Requirements by Level

Streetlight Specialist I (Entry-level)

• Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in streetlighting is preferred. A background and knowledge of standards and specifications for basic wiring, grounding, equipment, electrical safety, or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of education, specialized training or related experience may be considered.

• Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record is required. A valid Class B CDL (with air brakes) is required at the time of hire or must be obtained within six months of employment. International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician and Roadway Lighting Technician I certifications, or equivalent, must be obtained within twelve months of employment.

• Pay Range: Starting at $21.75 up to $28.90, depending on qualifications.

Streetlight Specialist II

• Experience: A minimum of one year of similar experience in streetlight maintenance or related fields is required. Strong technical skills with a background and knowledge of standards ad specifications of basic wiring, grounding, equipment, electrical safety, or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of education, specialized training, or related experience may be considered.

• Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record is required. A valid Class B CDL (with air brakes) is required at the time of hire or must be obtained within six months of employment. IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician and Roadway Lighting Technician I and II certifications, or equivalent, are required within twelve months of employment.

• Pay Range: Starting at $23.75 up to $31.79, depending on qualifications.

Streetlight Specialist III

• Experience: At least two years of experience in streetlight maintenance or related fields is required. Advanced technical skills, including a background and knowledge of standards and specifications for basic wiring, grounding, equipment, electrical safety, or related areas, are essential. Leadership experience with strong mentoring abilities is also required. Equivalent combinations of education, specialized training, or related experience may be considered.

• Licenses & Certifications: IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician, and Roadway Lighting Technician I and II certifications, or equivalent, are required within twelve months of employment. Completion of Electrical Academy I & II, or equivalent course is required.

• Pay Range: Starting at $25.50, up to $34.97, depending on qualifications.

• Additional Requirements for All Levels: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record.

Schedule: 7:30 AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday.

• Provides oversight of the asset management process for all city owned streetlight infrastructure.
• Provide field support to support fiber optic network backbone repairs and expansions.
• Manage the City’s utility location contract.
• Oversees inspections and repairs of street lighting devices installed/repaired by contractors.
• Provides assistance in project management, budget oversight and operations.
• In the Street Light Supervisors absence, attends design, utility, preconstruction meetings.
• Fulfills material requisitions and manages material inventory for streetlight operations.
• Updates all street lighting specifications and AutoCAD files.
• Respond to and investigate complaints and requests from city officials and residents.

Experience & Qualification Guidelines: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Experience: 5 year of similar experience required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Additional specialized training in basic electronics, electricity or a related field required. (Experience may be substituted for specialized training).

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of valid Class B CDL (with air brakes) required, or acquisition of said license within 6 months of employment required. Required certification in IMSA Work Zone, Roadway Lighting Level II. Completion of Johnson County Community College (JCCC) Electrical Academy I & II or equivalent course.

Supervised by: Streetlight Supervisor.

Supervises: Functional supervision of junior staff.
