Description
TPWD MISSION To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Under the direction of the Revenue Accountant Manager, the position performs complex (journey-level) accounting work. Work involves preparing and/or assisting with the preparation of financial, records, documents, and reports. Develops and maintains procedures and controls for accounting systems with respect to revenue classification/reclassification. Accurately compiles, reconciles, and analyzes financial data utilizing proper accounting theories/methodologies. Prepares, enters, and submits accounting transactions and related filings. Supports activity with appropriate documentation to maintain proper audit trails and accounting records. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree and major coursework in Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Finance or closely related field.
Experience :
Three years of experience in accounting and financial operations.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :
Education :
One additional year of experience may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Finance, or other closely related field with major coursework in accounting, finance, or banking.
Experience :
Three years of experience in multi-fund governmental accounting.
Three years of experience with state of Texas multi-fund governmental accounting.
Three years of experience with Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS) and/or Centralized Accounting Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS).
Three years of experience with high volume transactional data management and accounting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.
Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial systems.
Knowledge of Texas governmental accounting and State Comptroller methods.
Skill in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Skill in using automated accounting systems such as USAS and CAPPS.
Skill in preparing cash and receivables transactions with multiple revenue sources.
Skill in effective written and verbal communication.
Skill in prioritizing and managing multiple concurrent tasks.
Skill in problem solving and attention to detail.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with team members, co-workers, and work-related contacts.
Skill in using standard office equipment.
Ability to plan and organize workload tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to research and understand governmental policy and procedures.
Ability to compose clear and concise reports for internal and external use.
Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory to transactions on a day to day basis.
Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret large amounts of numerical accounting data.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Required to adjust to changing schedules.
Required to work overtime as necessary.
This position is suitable to telework two days per week and the candidate may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
