Job Summary Provides quality swimming and water safety instruction to the public for the City of Bryan Parks & Recreation Department. Essential Job Functions
Plans and conducts swimming lessons and water safety presentations according to skill requirements as defined by the American Red Cross Learn to Swim and Water Safety Instructor Program.
Establishes positive public relations with parents/guardians of program participants helping them recognize and understand swimming developments and achievements.
Cautions program participants and other swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards.
Acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of program participants and other swimmers in the event of an emergency.
Performs first aid or CPR when needed.
Observes, enforces, and educates on preventative water safety measures and the rules and regulations of the facility.
Ensures the timely completion of records and other required documentation to the program coordinator.
Assists with maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary facility.
Maintains appropriate fitness level to perform all essential functions of the position.
Continually practices safe work habits and alerts management about safety and other workplace concerns.
Reports for duty at the times specified and ensures a high standard of personal presentation and appearance is maintained per policy.
Attends mandatory training, orientations, and other staff meetings as scheduled.
Adheres to the policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the City of Bryan and the Parks and Recreation Department.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Preferred:
Previous experience teaching swimming lessons or participating in competitive swimming.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements Preferred:
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor ( WSI ) Certification or equivalent.
