SENIOR EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

The City of Concord is hiring one full-time Senior Equipment Mechanic in the Public Works Department.

The Public Works Department:

The Public Works Department strives to develop and provide a variety of customer-driven maintenance services and programs to protect the City’s investment of infrastructure, public facilities, and equipment, and to ensure the health and safety of Concord’s community in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. The Department is comprised of 89 full-time staff across multiple divisions: Administration, Facilities Maintenance, Infrastructure Maintenance, Parks Services, and Transportation.

The Fleet division provides efficient and timely maintenance of City vehicles to ensure staff have vehicles available when necessary. Fleet reports to the General Services Manager and consists of a Fleet Supervisor, Senior Equipment Mechanic, two Equipment Mechanics and a Parts and Service Technician. The program maintains light, medium and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles, electric vehicles, and Police Department equipment and vehicles. The City has deployed Assetworks fleet and fuel management software as well as telematics devices for work orders and reporting. Both unleaded and renewable diesel are located onsite at the City of Concord's Corporation Yard.

SELECTION PROCESS

3. Candidates that pass the panel interview will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 months.

Provides lead direction to subordinate personnel. Organizes and schedules work of subordinate staff, including assigning repair work. Performs necessary coordination, adjustments, and intervention to schedules and assignments. Performs and provides in-service and basic training; evaluates training provided. As assigned, provides input and recommendations regarding the design, content, and scheduling of training. Provides input and recommendations regarding performance. As assigned, participates in performance evaluation interviews and provides input regarding performance evaluation criteria and methods. Orders or delegates the ordering of materials, supplies, and equipment for the assigned maintenance section, that includes vendor review, selection, and price negotiation. Expected to use experience and knowledge of available products and sources to assure cost effective purchases. Completes and maintains required records and forms, such as maintenance logs, material requests, and work orders. Provides technical advice and assistance on complex work assignments. Performs preventive maintenance services on vehicles and equipment to include safety inspections. Diagnoses sources of mechanical problems or failures. Repairs and adjusts hydraulic lifts, steering, brakes and other controls. Inspects, cleans, repairs, and adjusts fuel, ignition, electrical, and cooling systems which may involve the replacement of such parts as fuel injectors, oil and fuel pumps, starting motors, distributors, alternators, voltage regulators, wiring, switches, batteries, radiators, thermostats, water pumps, etc. Promote the City's Mission to make Concord a city of the highest quality by providing responsive, cost-effective, and innovative government services; understands and subscribes to the Vision and Values Statement adopted by the City. Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine repairs. Ability to diagnose and determine engine and other operating defects; to make extensive repairs of motors, transmissions, differentials, chassis parts, and electrical, fuel, ignition, cooling, steering, and hydraulic and air systems including proper testing and adjustments; to use welding equipment; to read and interpret instructions, manuals, and diagrams; to keep records and make reports; to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Ability to effectively lead, train, and evaluate assigned personnel; to remain calm in situations of stress; to assess events quickly and accurately; to effectively classify and prioritize service requests; to search and find information from available resource systems; to identify and solve practical work problems without technical supervision; to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; to maintain neat and accurate records; to work safely and efficiently under stressful or physically harsh conditions; to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work and to provide maintenance services to meet the diverse needs of the broad customer service base unique to the assigned area of responsibility.

Education/Experience/Certifications:

Education: Must possess high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by completion of an apprenticeship program and/or other specialized training in the maintenance and repair of automotive and truck equipment.

Experience: Requires at least seven years of full-time journey level experience.

Other

A California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. A California Class B Driver's License and ASE Certifications are preferred.
