About University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB (This is not a state position) University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the university's educational mission by providing quality services that complement the instructional program. The University depends upon UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds. We’re responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.
Position Summary Temporary, Part Time, Non-Benefitted position through (6/30/2025) (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funds, availability of work and satisfactory job performance).
Salary: $17.00 per hour.
Location: San Bernardino. Salvation Army, Mary's Mercy Center.
Work Schedule Up to 10 hours per week. Schedule to be determined, after school hours.
First Review Deadline This position will remain open until filled.
Typical Activities Under minimal supervision of the Tutoring Coordinator, the Tutor will work independently to:
- Review student homework, engaging students in different instructional styles, and providing feedback and study skills to enhance student’s understanding of the school material within a two-hour time block three days a week.
- Diffuse verbal and emotional conflicts, provide emotional support, and enforce rules to provide an engaging learning environment.
- Assign educational activities, monitor student progress on homework completion, and perform tutor responsibilities such as cleaning and organizing the classroom supplies.
- Engage and build relationships with students, help students develop teamwork and leadership skills, and provide academic guidance.
- The homeless youth K-12 tutor position allows individuals the rare opportunity to expand their knowledge from the classroom and connect with the population they will serve in the San Bernardino County.
- The work is not only meaningful for the tutors, but also for the underprivileged youth in the program, as students get the opportunity to receive further educational assistance that they would otherwise be unavailable given their circumstances.
- Some travel between sites located within San Bernardino.
Minimum Qualifications - Education: High School Diploma.
- Experience: Working with students grades K-12.
- Other: Knowledge of STEM subjects.
Preferred Qualifications - Some college experience and some experience working with children.
- Knowledge of child development.
