There are currently one (1) vacancy in the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Program located in Brentwood, CA. You may occasionally be required to travel to various locations in Contra Costa County.
Public Health Nutritionists are responsible for planning, directing and carrying out the nutrition education program and providing nutrition services to the public. WIC serves pregnant women, women who have recently been pregnant, infants, and children up to their fifth birthday. WIC's mission is to provide all women, infants, and children with healthy food, and the knowledge and opportunity to make healthy choices in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, thus enhancing the potential for all Californians to enjoy a higher quality of life.
We are looking for someone who is:- A clear communicator. You will be responsible for providing individual and group counseling, and providing nutrition education clearly in writing and verbally to clients
- Knowledgeable. You will be responsible for providing nutrition education, and breastfeeding support to clients
- A team player. You will need to have excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to work in a team environment
- Adaptable. You will need to be able to adapt to changing priorities and a fast-paced environment
What you will typically be responsible for: - Providing individual counseling, group counseling, and nutrition education
- Developing menu items to be prepared by subcontractors
- Conducting café site visits to ensure compliance
- Conducting client surveys and other data tools to ensure client needs are being met
- Supporting staff and community health professionals with nutrition and health information and referrals
- Following federal, state, and county policies and procedures

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.Minimum QualificationsLicense Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process
. Certification required: A valid Certificate as a Registered Dietitian, issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) experience performing community based nutrition work.
Substitution for Experience: Possession of a Master's Degree in nutrition, public health nutrition or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Selection Process1. DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
