The CNC Programmer - Machinist is a highly skilled technical craftsperson who transforms engineering intent into fully finished precision components. In this role, you will take complete ownership of the machining process-from selecting machining strategies and developing CNC programs to designing tooling, setting up machines, and validating final part quality. Working in a sophisticated machine shop equipped with more than 50 advanced CNC tools, you will evaluate designs, choose the optimal machinery for each job, and build the full end-to-end manufacturing plan to produce complex parts to exact specifications. This position blends hands-on machining expertise with innovative problem-solving, process development, and quality certification. What You Will Do

The CNC Programmer - Machinist position is responsible for employing a combination of skills to deliver finished machined parts autonomously based on provided designs. Therefore, the CNC Machinist-Programmer must execute selection of appropriate machining techniques, determine method and sequence of work operations, development of CNC programs, design and construction of any necessary tooling, troubleshooting of manufacturing processes within the machine shops, and successful certification that the end items meet the specified requirements. Additionally, the CNC Machinist-Programmer works within a precision machine shop environment to set up, adjust, and operate a variety of CNC and manual machines, such as lathes, grinders, milling machines, EDM, etc. to perform machining functions. The CNC Machinist-Programmer will use judgment and reasoning to check precision machined parts and assemblies to specified operational, test and quality requirements.

The ideal candidate will understand the capabilities and limitations of the 50+ CNC machine tools in the Centrus' Technology and Manufacturing Center in Oak Ridge. The candidate will be able to review prints and determine which machines are most appropriate to build the desired part and then be able to develop the entire machining process necessary to make that part. The candidate must be able to provide complete manufacturing processes with computer numerical control machining programs to support CNC lathes, mills, mill/turn, grinders, and EDM. The candidate must have a work history that supports the breadth of manufacturing process development experiences needed to meet the requirements above.

• Associate degree or 3 years hands on machinist experience with milling and 3, 4, and 5 axis machines
• Five years of previous manufacturing programming and machining experience
• Experience with ASME Y14.5
• CAD and CAM experience
• Experience in Esprit CAD/CAM software
• CREO Manufacturing software experience
• Familiar with CREO Pro Engineering
• Experience operating within an NQA-1, NAP401.1, or similar quality program
