Crossing GuardOur Mission: Positively transforming learning and life outcomes for students through educational justice, equity, and excellence.Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentAbility to communicate with and manage elementary school-aged childrenAbility to identify and respond to emergency situations at school crossingsExcellent judgement and decision-making abilityAbility to command respect from motoristsAbility to stand for 30 minutes or longer and walk several blocks to cross children at separate crossing locations when requiredAbility to work in inclement weather conditionsReliable transportationReports To: Building Principal or designeeSupervises: N/AObjective: To direct traffic at assigned crossings to protect children and to provide for the orderly movement of vehicular and pedestrian trafficPerformance Responsibilities:Promptly reports for all assignments and follows appropriate check-in proceduresLearns the location and purpose of street traffic signs within the assigned patrol areas and uses this information as neededCommunicates traffic and crossing rules and other relevant information to students and adultsEnsures that children use the proper crossing locations and that no children are in the street while traffic is movingRemains alert for present or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding the assigned crossingInforms the Principal of present and potential traffic hazards and recommends remedial steps to be taken to solve these problemsMakes note of the description and license plate number of flagrant traffic violators and promptly provides this information to the PrincipalMaintains a professional appearance and demeanorRemains on duty through the end of the assignment and follows appropriate check-out proceduresCompletes all required annual training via the District's web-based trainings portal, SafeSchoolsPerforms other related duties as assignedTerms of Employment: Employment at-will; compensation as established by the Board of EducationEvaluation: Performance is continuously evaluated in accordance with the District's plan for evaluation of Crossing GuardsStatus: Created May 6, 2019
