DescriptionThe Paralegal provides front office assistance to the Coroner’s Office to ensure that all legal inquiries/requests
from the public, civil and criminal systems are monitored, documented and fulfilled according to legal
requirements and standards.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $50,440 - $66,060 (Estimated Annual Salary)

Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.)
Manages and oversees Subpoena requests by ensuring all requests are properly documented and fulfilled. Assists with answering the phone and greeting visitors to the office. Manages and oversees the FOIA process by ensuring all requests are properly documented and fulfilled. Researches and analyzes legal issues commonly encountered by members of this Office and aids/instruction to staff as needed. Assists with the invoicing, acceptance, documentation and deposits of funds to ensure accurate record of transactions related to legal requests. Responds to questions from the public, attorneys, law enforcement officials, investigators, and courts related to legal matters to include Confirmation of Death letters. Monitors and completes mandatory death reporting as indicated i.e. In-Custody deaths, Child Deaths. Assists staff in the preparation of depositions, court hearings, death reviews and inquests; and attends as indicated. Keeps abreast of all current laws and changes to the law as it relates to this Office by attending Continuing Legal Educations Seminars and self-study. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Paralegal Certification required.Must have a minimum of two (2) years of paralegal experience. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft 365.Must possess a valid SC Driver’s License (or obtain within three (3) months of hire) and meet the requirements of the County’s motor vehicle policy.
