Now Hiring: Lateral Firefighter Advanced EMT
The City of South Jordan is hiring full-time Lateral Firefighter Advanced EMTs to join our Fire Department. This position responds to emergency calls and planned events, providing advanced life support, firefighting, and rescue services. Eligible candidates must have at least one year of verifiable full-time experience as Firefighter Paramedic / EMT.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to fire, medical, rescue, hazardous materials, and other emergency incidents.
- Provide advanced and basic life support and transport patients to medical facilities.
- Perform fire suppression tasks including forcible entry, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul.
- Operate and maintain fire apparatus, tools, and emergency equipment.
- Conduct building inspections, hydrant testing, and fire prevention activities.
- Support community wellness programs and provide public education.
- Participate in ongoing training, station maintenance, and equipment readiness.
- Complete required documentation, reports, and administrative tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Utah Class D Driver License
- Must have at least one year of verifiable, full-time firefighting experience
- Utah EMT-Basic certification
- Utah Advanced EMT certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire
- Utah Firefighter II certification or ability to obtain
- Must meet department physical ability standards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of emergency medical protocols, fire suppression techniques, and rescue operations.
- Ability to operate firefighting and medical equipment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in high-stress situations, in all weather conditions, and during extended shifts.
- Familiarity with local geography, fire codes, and safety standards.
Work Conditions:
- Exposure to hazardous conditions including fire, smoke, extreme temperatures, and traumatic incidents.
- Requires physical strength, endurance, and mental resilience.
- Work schedule includes rotating 48-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, and possible emergency call-outs.
- Involves extended periods of physical exertion and irregular sleep
