Job Description
OverviewThe Waste and Recycle Collection Superintendent is responsible for operations of the Waste Collection division providing refuse and recycling collection services to residential and business customers throughout the city.
Responsibilities
• Through five (5) subordinate Sanitation Foreman and one (1) General Foreman, direct the activities of the Waste Collection division, encompassing collection of refuse and recycling set outs for the department
• Develop, establish and monitor collection routes and schedules, adjusting daily operations as needed to ensure adherence to the published schedule
• Respond to customer inquiries/ complaints and resolve problems
• Provide 3 rd level supervisory functions over assigned workforce
• Develop and maintain annual emergency plan for responding to major weather or other emergencies that require immediate and/ or prolong community clean-up restoration services
• Oversee and monitor the routing system to ensure driver compliance with routes, stops and timeliness of collections
• Note inaccuracies/ inadequacies of system and confer with system designers to make necessary adjustments to provide maximum level of collection services to city customers
• Monitor safety of operations and initiate action to ensure both employee and public safety and to avoid city liability issues to maximum extent possible
• Enforce safety standards and operational protocols
• Ensure compliance with environmental and municipal regulations
• Record crew performance and operational data
• Coach crew members on proper work ethic
• Complete payroll and meet payroll deadlines
• Keep records of vehicle accidents/ incident reports, and staff training
• Review and approve Counseling Conversation summaries as needed
• Create yearly collection Brush/ Bulky schedule
• Communicate with Litter Critter location representatives to confirm yearly event locations
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Exempt - Full-Time, 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree (BA/ BS)
• Four (4) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within one (1) year of hire
• MSW Class B or Class A license

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
