Anticipated Hiring Range

$5,797.00 - $6,658.00 Per Month ($69,564.00 - $79,896.00 Annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

The Senior Development Research and Management Analyst plays a key role in the planning and implementation of the

university’s major gifts program and campaign(s) by providing information and analysis on various potential funding sources. The Senior Analyst is a strategic partner with fundraisers, providing relevant information to facilitate prospect strategy development, engagement and solicitation, and tracking of prospective and current donors. The Senior Analyst

independently and proactively identifies/qualifies prospective individual, foundation and corporate donors to support the

university’s priorities and objectives and to meet the university’s fundraising goals. The Senior Analyst position requires superior analytical skills, excellent communication and reporting skills, and an ability to prioritize work and handle

multiple deadlines and priorities. The Senior Analyst handles sensitive and confidential information on a daily basis.

Position Information

Research and Analysis

• Assists in developing cultivation, solicitation and overall fundraising strategies. Assists in building, evaluating, maintaining and rating a qualified pool of prospects for campaigns, major gifts, planned gifts, and annual gifts.
• Partners with assigned fundraisers (DODs) to manage their prospect portfolios through regular interactions including portfolio review meetings scheduled on a bimonthly basis and as needed.
• Analyzes data and researches prospect information to create appropriate new prospect portfolios; maintains an active pipeline of future prospects for assigned DODs to maximize fundraising and campaign success.
• Manages Active Qualification assignments and pipeline for assigned DODs.
• Identifies, then qualifies potential donors from local, national and international sources including online databases, existing files, referrals from alumni and friends, and works independently leading a proactive media scanning process including social media, and other web sources; presents these prospects development officers.
• Using our internal Raiser’s Edge NXT (RE) a fundraising database and external data sources such as Live Alumni, LexisNexis, iWave, etc., conducts targeted research on prospects and current donors to refine cultivation and solicitation strategies including analysis of financial reports such as: IRS 990 or 990- PF; SEC 10K, Form 4, S1, and Proxy statements; and other public filings.
• Oversees the updating of statuses and information (capacity ratings, employment, philanthropy, biographies, contacts, etc.) in the portfolios of assigned DODs.
• Evaluates prospects who are inactive, follows-up with DODs, re-assigns prospects and updates information.
• Ensures integrity of prospect data maintained in Raisers Edge.
• Monitors accuracy and completeness of data entered and follows up with DODs as necessary.
• Using campus donor database (RE), manages, records and reports on wide range of demographic, financial, activity and descriptive information.
• Interprets and synthesizes large amounts of information including complex financial, legal and technical language into coherent, understandable and accurate presentations (written, visual and/or oral), that pertain to the university's fundraising objectives.
• Writes, edits, and provides prospect and event briefings based on research to DODs and other stakeholders.
• Provides insight and analysis of results or activities which may include analysis of donor trends, interests, giving capacity and affinity, and makes recommendations to Senior Director for improvements or new approaches as indicated. • Learns new systems and technology including data sources and has expanded capacity to conduct prospect screenings in ResearchPoint, LiveAlumni. iWave and other research tools.

Data Management/Reporting

• Provides portfolio, proposal and metrics reports for all regular meetings with DODs and senior leadership using RE and Tableu, which are used to help determine next steps with prospects and manage solicitation and fundraising progress. • Coordinates closely with database staff; ensures prompt and accurate data-entry in the prospect management and tracking module of the database of record (currently Advance) with information obtained via research, media scans, updates from meetings, etc.
• Assists with the creation of new reports and procedures.

Special Projects

• Analysis and implementation of the results of wealth screening and ratings, including organizing the resulting prospect assignments. Utilizes advanced data segmentation analysis to interpret and prioritize results.
• Organizes periodic prospect screening which may include efforts with volunteers or Foundation board members.
• Identifies and prepares profiles on potential volunteers to serve in key leadership positions including the philanthropic foundation, advisory councils, campaign committees and other volunteer boards/committees.
• Other projects may include interest code development, targeting foundation and corporate prospects, evaluating and expanding use of data in the database to inform critical needs/create efficiencies, etc.
• Identified as “power user” and tests, evaluates and make recommendations for new data systems.

Training and Teamwork

• Provides basic training for effective use of donor database and compliance with university policies and procedures regarding prospect data; (N) provides additional training on information tools, processes, and sources.
• Leads training, assigning work and monitoring and performance of student assistants. Training includes basic research skills, fundraising database (currently Advance), specifically in the Prospect Research module, and in updating prospect records.
• Assists and participates in short- and long-range strategic planning and in the developing/revising department policies and procedures. • Identifies, shares, and incorporates best practices and new resources used in prospect research.
• Participates in department, unit, professional development and other meetings as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge and understanding of advancement, development, fundraising, and/or donor engagement practices and policies.
• Demonstrated competence in applying advanced judgment to resolve difficult and complex problems and issues.
• Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines. Ability to make recommendations for changes based on interpretations and principles of professional practices.
• Advanced analytical and organizational skills to prioritize and execute the fulfillment of advancement campaigns and to successfully manage projects within time and budget constraints.
• Advanced communications and interpersonal skills, including political acumen, to build partnerships and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders in a diverse environment. Ability to effectively present ideas and training as well as successfully engage with prospective donors.
• Advanced skill in effectively mentoring and/or overseeing the work of others and training staff on advancement practices and procedures.

Experience and Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Work experience: 5+ years of experience in development/fundraising programs, including minimum of four years of related research experience (e.g. development prospect research, library/information sciences, data analytics research or related field) in the non-profit or commercial sectors.
• Professional experience with fundraising, proactive prospect management, data analysis tools (statistical software) or a related activity such as business development and/or sales.
• Expertise in Lexis/Nexis, ResearchPoint, Foundation Directory Online, LiveAlumni, iWavePRO, and other specialized search engines.
• Ability to effectively present results, ideas and/or concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and consensus-building skills to facilitate outcomes.
• Ability to identify philanthropic patterns, as well as relationships among individuals, foundations and corporations.
• Advanced skills in relational database applications, reports and functions, and to communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
• Expertise in Ellucian/Advance a plus.
• Expertise in Excel, PowerPoint to create use advanced formulas, pivot tables, charts, graphs, etc.
• Experience developing reports from databases (Raiser's Edge); using reporting tools such as Tableau for preparing materials on prospects and fundraising metrics.
