Description
Overview
Gas Technicians II - Pressure & Measurement are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the City's gas distribution system.
Responsibilities
• Keep crew truck clean and assist with inventory of parts and supplies to keep the truck fully stocked
• Cleans parts and tools and performs daily maintenance and/or calibration of equipment
• Use small hand tools, tapping, and stopple equipment
• Perform semi-skilled and common labor work such as paint and/or wrap pipe, cutting and threading pipe, pipefitting and assist in other pipeline maintenance as required
• Operate backhoe, trenching machine, winch truck, air compressor, dump truck and other semi-heavy maintenance and construction equipment
• Prepare tap cards and/or various inspection reports and documentation in accordance with Department procedures and/or regulatory requirements
• Inspect equipment and make adjustment and minor repairs to maintain equipment in proper operating condition
• Maintain map books
• Operate a 1-ton truck, 2 ½ ton crew truck, winch truck, dump truck, pickup truck, pole and float trailers, ditchers, air compressors, welding machine and equipment
• Install or repair mains, services and meter loops
• Check for stopped meters and houseline pressures using manometer
• Conduct pressure tests, purges and puts in service new and existing gas mains in the City Gas Distribution system
• Test and witness gate station meters with supplier to ensure accurate measurement of the purchased gas for the City of Corpus Christi
• Maintain and oversee odorization logs for accuracy and overall odor additive totals in all citywide gas odorizes
• Ensure all proper odorant refill procedures are adhered in a safe manner and witness correct transfer of odorant additives to odorizers
• Perform routine maintenance on telemetry equipment, including calibration, troubleshooting and repair
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Nonexempt - Full-Time
• Nonrotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications
• High School/ GED
• Three (3) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within six (6) months of hire
• Certified as a competent welder by the Gas Department in both oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding
• Certified to fuse Poly pipe
• Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake endorsements

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
