The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is offering an excellent career opportunity for one (1) qualified individual interested in the position of Environmental Services Supervisor assigned to the Environmental Services Unit located in Martinez, CA.

The Environmental Services Supervisor will supervise custodial staff and support the service needs of the Medical, Surgical, Operating Rooms, Post Anesthesia Care, Emergency, Behavioral Health, Diagnostic Imagining, Critical Care, Pharmacy, and patient rooms in addition to other ancillary areas. They will also advise the Unit Manager or Director of daily activities and long-term planning needs, prepare daily work schedules to accommodate special work requests, monitor and counsel employee performance, and prepare written performance evaluations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience (or its equivalent), of which one (1) year must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity, in performing institutional housekeeping duties. Institutional experience may have been obtained from one of the following: military installation, hospital, detention facility, juvenile hall, elementary or high school, community and/or state college or university or a similar institution.

Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience in a healthcare or hospital setting, particularly with infection control and sanitation standards
• Experience supervising or leading staff in an institutional environment
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as OSHA, Joint Commission, or similar compliance standards
• Experience with floor care maintenance, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and use of related equipment
• Experience with staff scheduling, timekeeping systems, and workforce coordination
• Strong training and staff development experience, including onboarding and performance coaching
• Experience managing supplies, inventory, and equipment within a facility setting

SELECTION PROCESS
Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.Online Multiple-Choice Exam: Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a multiple-choice assessment. The assessment is designed to measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include but are not limited to: Leadership, Delegating, Decision Making, Driving Results . The assessment will be administered remotely using a computer. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment. It is not recommended to take the assessment using a cell phone. If you apply for another recruitment that uses this exam and the test is scheduled within six (6) months of the date you took the exam, you will not have the option to re-take it. (Weighted 50%) Virtual Oral Exam: The online video assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job and candidates must achieve an average passing score of 70% or higher on each of the competencies, as well as an overall passing score of 70% or higher. These competencies may include but are not limited to: Displaying Ownership and Accountability, Safety Focus, Oral Communication. (Weighted 50%)
The assessments may be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment.

TENTATIVE EXAM DATES

Multiple Choice Exam: June 17, 2026 - June 21, 2026

Virtual Oral Exam: June 24-28, 2026

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
