The Position

Contra Costa County is currently accepting applications to fill one (1) EHS Deputy Bureau Director-Exempt position in the Employment and Human Services Department.

The Deputy Bureau Director assists with planning, organizing, implementing, and directing Department programs and services; assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of subordinate personnel, and performs related duties as required. The ideal candidate for the Deputy Bureau Director assignment will have strong analytical and administrative skills and will be able to monitor compliance of multiple programs. The applicant should be an adept leader able to provide direction to and manage the work of others. In addition, candidates must have experience working in partnership with community-based organizations. A proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of government and community partners is essential in this role.

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Gerontology, Counseling, Social Work, Social or Behavioral or Health Sciences, Business or Public Administration, or a closely related field.

Experience: Four (4) years full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) public administration experience which included responsibilities for supervision, program services operations, service delivery evaluation and regulatory compliance. Two (2) year of the above experience must have been at a managerial level.

Substitution of Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Business or Public Administration, Social or Behavioral Sciences, or a closely related field and (1 ) additional year of the required listed experience.

Selection Process

This position is exempted from the merit system and will not follow regular County recruitment and selection procedures. Not all applicants will be invited to participate in the evaluation and interview process.

1. Application Filing: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

2. Interview: The most qualified candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an interview. This is an exempt classification. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement in the interview process.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
