Workdays & Hours: Field Operations is a 24/7 Operation - weekend work may be required. This position is a first responder in severe weather conditions/emergencies which will be subject to work after hours, emergency call back hours, nights, weekends, holidays and will participate in an on-call rotation schedule. This role requires proactive and dependable individuals who can quickly adapt to changing conditions and respond efficiently to urgent situations. Utility Line Technician - Water Asset Management

In this role, the employee is responsible for proactively identifying and responding to issues within the water distribution system. Some of the duties are:

Utility Line Technician position is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department / Field Operations Division. The Field Operations Division is a 24/7 operation and is the largest division of the Water Department and an integral function of the maintenance of the City of Fort Worth's infrastructure. This position is essential to the daily operations of the division and an integral role in the department's success. The ideal candidate will be responsible for investigating Water department assets throughout the system to identify the source of water leaks and breaks (City asset or private plumbing), isolate the segment of line for breaks and leaks to prevent damage to property and create work orders for the appropriate sections to initiate repairs. This requires operation of specialized listening and correlation equipment to pinpoint the location of leaks and breaks, the ability to operate all required valves to take water distribution lines in and out of service, the ability to thoroughly flush the system to ensure water meets all local, state and federal standards, while ensuring job site safety.

The incumbent will possess an intermediate understanding of equipment and maintenance procedures required for optimal operation, as well as safety standards and construction methods. Having demonstrated the ability to safely and effectively operate both hand and power tools, while adhering to safety protocols. The employee will also have the capability to work safely with electricity and handle hazardous or toxic materials commonly found in water and wastewater treatment processes. Additionally, the employee will show proficiency in maintaining tools and equipment to ensure proper functionality. Furthermore, the incumbent will demonstrate intermediate knowledge of various materials, methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in water and wastewater systems and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting; depending on the assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils, and workspace restrictions. Must be able to work outdoors in all extreme weather conditions.
