Description

Overview

The Pool Mechanic position performs maintenance on, repair of, or replacement of all major and minor systems associated with operation of pools splash pads and pool features and the facilities housing them within parameter of certification and training. This position will keep pools and splash pads in an operational condition, avoiding closures due to unsafe or unsanitary conditions, or faulty equipment or systems.

Responsibilities

• Checks chemical levels at pools, fills and makes adjustments to automatic or manual chemical feeding systems, service filtration systems, monitors and adjusts flow rates

• Ensures pools and splash pad plumbing system is in working and works to fix what can be done in house

• Ensures longevity over the course of the pools/splash pads service life by preventative maintenance to all splash pads and pool pumps, feeders and other mechanized systems

• Walks through to ensure pool deck, bath houses, restrooms, and offices are clean and safe working conditions

• Communicates with proper manager on status of current repairs or projects

• Recommends options for system repairs or upgrades, reports of potential problems or equipment that might need replacement for planning purposes

• Assists pool staff in proper operation of equipment and troubleshooting of facility issues

• Makes minor purchases that assist with keeping up with the day-to-day operation of the aquatic facilities

• Works on site with outside pool/splash pad repairs service technicians to ensure that major repairs and overhauls are being done properly

• Works with service techs on schedule of work, services provided, products required, and other facility related issues

• Drains pools for major service or repainting, places orders for equipment and pool chemicals and coordinates with vendors and representatives on scheduled services and repairs

• Assists facility managers with training lifeguard staff on how to check chemical levels, diagnose minor problems and standard sanitation issues at facilities, and how to operate pool vacuums

• Attends training annually to ensure that the most up to date maintenance practice are being utilized at the facilities

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non - Exempt - Full-Time - 40 hours a week

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Two (2) years of experience

Certifications, Licenses or other requirements

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within Six (6) months of Hire

• Certified Pool and Spa Certificate

Preferred Experience

• Pool chemistry and Pool maintenance and pumps

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
