DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS *Provides general supervision and coordination in reviewing contractors’ compliance with plans and specifications.
*Oversee the inspection activities and personnel to review and evaluate contractors’ compliance on various construction project plans and specifications.
*Review preliminary plans and evaluate future plans for construction.
*Review contractor submittals.
*Resolve construction problems.
*Operate vehicle to and from various construction sites.
*Attend pre-bid, pre-construction and other meetings.
*Prepare and review various reports and records.
*Provide management of multiple contracts of various sites.
*Serve as liaison between City personnel and contractors, consultants, or testing laboratories.
*Reviews, approves and tracks consultant or testing laboratory estimates. May develop standard protocol for environmental and geotechnical investigations.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves stooping or bending. Occasionally very light lifting such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier II Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position. Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental or a closely related field are required.
Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to candidates with experience in construction, operations, maintenance of surface water and/or ground water treatment processes.
