The Job San Bernardino County is recruiting for
Media Specialists I. Media Specialists use social media, videography, photography, graphic design, and audio files to develop written and electronic marketing/outreach materials used for internal and external publications. Media Specialists also participate in community and countywide outreach events/activities and support the agency during major media/communications incidents.

Benefits by Occupational Unit (BbOU) Summary Employee Benefits County Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-employment Process: Applicants must pass a background check, including a job-related physical exam, drug test, and verification of employment history and education prior to employment.
Travel: Travel throughout the county is required to perform essential job duties. Incumbents will be required to make provision for transportation and may be required to use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
Shifts: Some positions may require incumbents to work some evenings, weekends, and on call.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements Applicants must meet both the education and experience requirement for one (1) of the following options: Option 1: Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in English, Journalism, Business/Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field.
-AND-Experience: One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience with primary responsibility for writing and editing educational/informational brochures, news releases, and/or promotional materials for internal or external publications; organizing, coordinating, and overseeing outreach programs to promote organizational events and activities; and creating content for a variety of social media platforms.
Option 2: Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework from an accredited institution in English, Journalism, Business/Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field. A list of completed college coursework or legible transcripts must be submitted with the application.
-AND-Experience: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience as listed in option 1.
Notes: - Coursework: Transcripts (unofficial are acceptable) MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess a completed bachelor's degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields listed. If the field of study is not listed, transcripts must be submitted for review of relevant coursework.
- International Coursework: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.

- Ability to record and edit videos
- Experience photographing events
- Experience developing graphics for public dissemination
- Experience developing marketing strategies that enhance an organization's image
- Experience working in a government/public sector setting responding to major incidents
- Experience developing/managing social media content, growing audiences, and reporting metrics
- Experience developing and implementing a Public Relations Program designed to educate and inform the public
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; proper use of grammar and the ability to edit others' written materials, including APA style
- Ability to utilize Adobe Creative suite programs, Microsoft Publisher, or similar design programs
- Public Information Officer training
Bilingual skills are highly desirable for select departments.
