About the OpportunityThe City of Ventura is hiring for two
Management Technician I/II positions, with one vacancy in
Parks & Recreation and one in
Public Works.
The Management Technician I/II serves as a key technical and administrative resource, supporting a variety of departmental and division programs and projects. In this position, you will perform moderately complex technical duties, including data collection, analysis, and reporting, to support informed decision-making and efficient service delivery. Depending on the assignment, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of administrative, financial, and operational functions in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill vacancies in both the Parks & Recreation-Parks Division and Public Works-Transportation Division. This position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either level, depending on the qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skills of the incumbent, as well as the staffing needs of the City.
What You’ll DoKey Responsibilities may include:
- Coordinating program areas such as budget tracking, purchasing, contracts, and administrative operations
- Maintaining databases and records, ensuring accuracy, quality control, and data integrity
- Collecting, analyzing, and reporting on program and operational data
- Assisting with financial processes, including tracking expenditures and revenues, and supporting accounts payable
- Supporting procurement and contract administration activities, including requests for proposals, agreements, and payment tracking
- Developing and improving systems, procedures, and tracking tools to enhance efficiency
- Conducting research and compiling statistical, fiscal, and operational reports
- Preparing written materials such as reports, procedures, manuals, and grant documentation
- Coordinating projects and programs that involve collaboration across departments
- Providing customer service, responding to public inquiries, and supporting meetings or departmental initiatives
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Management Technician I - Is the entry-level classification in the job series. Under general supervision, incumbents perform a variety of the routine paraprofessional technical and administrative duties such as data compilation and evaluation, coordination of work activities to ensure continuity in program or administrative operations. Incumbents have the ability to apply specialized rules, procedures and processes specific to a particular program, system or operation. Positions are flexibly staffed and incumbents are expected to advance to the Management Technician II classification upon obtaining the required experience.
Management Technician II - Is the journey-level classification in the job series and is distinguished from Management Technician I by assignment of more complex and difficult technical and administrative duties. Incumbents perform the full range of duties assigned in an independent manner, implementing programs, systems and processes within established guidelines. This classification is distinguished from the Management Analyst series by the latter's supervisory responsibility, regular assignment of routine analytical and complex administrative tasks, independence of action, and breadth of responsibility.

The ideal candidate will:
- Have strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with data tracking and reporting tools
- Be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrate strong computer and technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, Word, and Outlook
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Be a self-starter who takes initiative and works independently
- Approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional, positive, and collaborative attitude
- Have experience using an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is highly desirable
Minimum Qualifications - Required Management Technician I: A combination of experience and education equivalent to two years of administrative or technical level support experience or one year of highly complex clerical support involving data collection, report writing, and/or research (equivalent to Administrative Secretary, Legal Administrative Secretary, Executive Assistant or Police Records Supervisor) plus college coursework in business or public administration or closely related field.
Management Technician II: A combination of experience and education equivalent to three years of administrative or technical level support experience or two years of highly complex clerical support involving data collection, report writing, research and/or supervision (equivalent to Administrative Secretary, Legal Administrative Secretary, Executive Assistant or Police Records Supervisor) and two years full time college course work (48 semester units) in business or public administration or a closely related field.
License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
